How to Speed Up Your Android Smartphone

1. Think about using a different launcher

Think about using a home alternative. There are quite a few third party launchers out there that you can use. They are an alternative to the launcher that comes with the Android. The Android home is quite complex and takes up a fair amount of memory, RAM and processor power. A third party launcher offers a strip down all of these functions, so that you are just presented with a simple launching program.

2. Lower your settings on your phone

The home page (home/home screen) may often have its settings lowered to a level that requires less processor power or memory. It is like when you play PC games and you lower the graphics so that you can play the game without it getting jerky. A similar thing may be done with an Android in many cases.

3. Turn off the animations on your Android

The animations are the little things that happen whenever you do something on your Android, such as when you open a tab or an app. These animations are there for no other reason than to look pretty. People are averse to computing software working for them, without a little bit of a preamble first. This may be removed so that the animations no longer appear. You may disable the animations on the screen, and here is how you do it:

Settings > Display > Animation.

Doing this is both pragmatic and will improve your Android performance.

4. Disable the plugin browser

This is another thing you can do to increase the speed of your Android. It removes yet another element that slowly sucks your processor power and memory. It is a little drag factor that you may remove. Here is how you do it:

Open Browser > Settings > Plugins.

5. Do not use live wallpaper

It looks pretty and it makes using your Android a little more interesting, but it does have a drag factor on the performance of your Android phone. So, it is better if you do not use live wallpaper.

6. Clear out your apps every now and again

Uninstall any applications that are not used anymore (unless they cost you a lot of money). If you have apps that you use very infrequently (maybe such as a currency converter), but that was also free, you should delete it. If you need the free app then you can just download it. Removing apps will free up some memory space. Memory usage will affect your Androids performance. Imagine that your Android OS is a librarian, and the apps are books in the Library. If there are fewer books then the librarian will find your Where’s Wally books faster.

7. Replace your heavy apps with lighter ones

Your apps will take up a certain amount of processor power and memory. Some apps are far slower than others, so uninstall the applications that consume too much memory and replace them with others that have the same function but consumes less. There are apps on the android Market whose coding is not optimized which makes them run slower. Find the ones that are better-optimized (have “tighter code” if you wish to use programmer parlance). Heavy apps (ones that use lots of processor power and memory) may often be loaded with features that you never even use. You may find other apps out there that do less and yet still have all the features you need.

8. Remove or turn off background apps

Some of these will run without your knowledge. Which means it may be time to have a good look at what your Android is actually up to. For example, many people leave their GPS on in the background without realizing it is drinking their processor power and memory.

WhatsApp Launches Desktop App for Windows, Mac PC

Now chat from the comfort of your PC/laptop as WhatsApp has launched standalone App for Mac and Windows

The popular social messaging app, WhatsApp on Tuesday launched desktop apps for Windows and Mac OS. The apps are very similar to WhatsApp Web, the online client launched in January 2015. You can now download the new apps via the company’s site and are compatible with devices running Windows 8 or higher, Mac OS 10.9 and above. This is in addition to the existing apps for Android, iOS, Blackberry, and Windows Phone, among others.
“Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device,” the company said. With the launch of desktop apps, WhatsApp is now available across all popular platforms in app form.
To download the app, visit here from your desktop browser. Then, open the app and scan the QR code using the WhatsApp app on your phone (look for WhatsApp Web menu under Settings).
Just like WhatsApp Web, the desktop apps work similarly to the WhatsApp Web client and the app will mirror conversations and messages from mobile devices.
The new desktop apps are synced with WhatsApp on mobile devices, and the app will run natively on the desktop, which means it will have support for native desktop notifications.
WhatsApp had earlier this year announced that it now had 1 billion monthly active users. Also, the messaging app service has been lately working on adding various features. It is expected to add call back, voicemail, zip file sharing, and video calls support to the service soon.

Speed up a slow PC without buying new hardware

If a once-fast computer has slowed to a crawl, you can't really blame the hardware. Sure, you may be able to improve speed by adding RAM, upgrading the CPU, or replacing the hard drive with an SSD. But none of those solutions--all of which cost money--address the underlying problem. Your hardware isn't underpowered. It's overloaded.

Cleaning out Windows will very likely speed up a PC. And no, I'm not suggesting reinstalling the operating system. There are less drastic fixes.

Look for hog processes
Your computer may be running a poorly-written process that's hogging a lot of resources. To find out, right-click the taskbar and select Start Task Manager. Click the Processes tab, then the CPU column header. The top items will be the ones hogging the CPU.
If you see an obvious culprit, close the program that's running the process (it's pretty easy to figure out what it is). If that doesn't work, click the End Process button and confirm that you really want to kill this process.
Should that fix the problem, avoid using that program in the future. Or find a better-written replacement.
Otherwise, back on the Process tab, click the Memory column header and see if you can find the culprit there.

Clean out autoloaders

When Windows boots, it automatically loads additional programs--sometimes a lot of them. One big autoloader--or a lot of little ones--can slow the PC down.
The trick is to bring up Windows' list of autoloaders, and by disabling and re-enabling them, and rebooting, figure out which ones are causing the problem.
In Windows XP, Vista, or 7, click Start (Start>Run in XP), type msconfig, and press ENTER. Once System Configuration comes up, click the Startup tab. You can disable items by unchecking them.

If you're using Windows 8, right-click the taskbar and select Start Task Manager. If you see aStartup tab, click it. If you don't, click More details, then Startup. To disable an item, right-click it and select Disable.

Do less multitasking

The more programs you run, the slower they will all be. Consider changing your working habits to have less programs up at the same time.

Turn off Aero
Windows 7 and Vista use a technology called Aero to improve the esthetic look of the screen. It's not necessary, and it slows down the PC a bit.
